Overview:
On October 1, 2024, the Young Economic Association, under the guidance of Ms. M.D. Christian (Senior Treasurer of the Young Economic Association) and Dr. (Ms.) K. Karunaanithy (Head, Department of Economics), organized a Blood Donation Camp at the Faculty of Arts, University of Jaffna. This event was part of the University Gold Jubilee celebrations, marking a significant milestone in the institution’s history. Every year, this blood donation campaign is organized in remembrance of our founding member of the Department of Economics, Professor N. Balakrishnan, honoring his vision and, commitment to community service. This tradition not only upholds his legacy but also continues to make a meaningful impact by addressing critical medical needs, such as the collection of rare blood types during this year’s event. The camp was prepared for 150 donors, with an estimated budget of 17,045 LKR. Despite having fewer donors, the resources were efficiently managed, ensuring refreshments and necessary items were available for both donors and the medical team.

– Doctors and Nurses: 8
The camp saw enthusiastic participation from students, faculty members, and staff. The medical team, consisting of 8 doctors and nurses, ensured a smooth donation process. Participants registered and underwent medical checks before donating blood.
Event Proceedings:
The camp commenced at 9:00 AM, with donors lining up to offer their contributions. Students and staff from different faculties came forward, showcasing a sense of unity and social responsibility. Each donor was provided with refreshments sponsored by the Provincial Youth Empowerment Network, including Milo and lunch.
Acknowledgments:
Special thanks go to the Christianity Department, Hindu Culture Department, and the Translation Department for providing fans to ensure the comfort of everyone during the event. Their support played a crucial role in the success of the blood donation camp.
Conclusion:
The Blood Donation Camp, organized as part of the university’s Gold Jubilee celebration, concluded successfully at 4:00 PM. The Young Economic Association thanked the Provincial Youth Empowerment Network for their sponsorship, Dr.(Ms).K.Karunaanithy & Mrs.M.D.A.Christian for their donation to volunteers and the medical team for their dedicated service. This event reflected the university’s commitment to community welfare and unity.
