GOLDEN JUBILEE YEAR & TOURISM DAY - TRADE FAIR & EXHIBITION

Introduction:

On September 27th, 28th, and 29th  2024, the Young Economic Association, under the guidance of Ms. M.D. Christian (Senior Treasurer of the Young Economic Association) and Dr. (Ms.) K. Karunaanithy (Head, Department of Economics), organized trade fair and exhibition during the golden jubilee and tourism day ceremony at Jaffna University premises. The event aimed to provide an opportunity for young economist association entrepreneurs to showcase their talents while raising funds to support future activities and programs of the Young Economist Association.

 

Objectives:

1. Developing Entrepreneurship Skills:

The primary objective of the food and garments stall was to foster entrepreneurship skills among students and encourage them to view entrepreneurship as a desirable and feasible career option. By going beyond theoretical knowledge taught in the course unit AECE 32023, “Entrepreneurship and Small Business,” this stall provided practical experience and a platform to gain confidence in starting new ventures and exploring innovative ideas.

 

2. Fundraising:

The Young Economist Association aimed to raise funds through the stall to support and execute more successful projects in the near future. These funds would enable the association to continue organizing events and initiatives that promote economic awareness and education among students and the university community.

Stall Highlights:
Food Delights: The food stall showcased a diverse menu featuring local delicacies such as coconut water juice, fruit salad, Pani puri, Tea, Mojito, . The stall was manned by 1st year, 2nd year, 3rd year & final year enthusiastic students who participated in the event.
Palm Based Production: The Palm Based Production stall displayed trendy and traditional Production items made by young entrepreneurs associated with the Young Economist Association. “Magendii Arts,” a venture by two students, attracted attention and provided them with a platform to exhibit their creativity and talents.

Financial Success:
The food and Palm Based Production stall surpassed expectations, The net profit from the stall amounted to 28,099/=, which is a significant achievement for the association’s fundraising efforts.

Student Feedback:
The participating students expressed immense joy and enthusiasm for the event, highlighting the great platform it provided to showcase their talents and entrepreneurial efforts. They gained valuable experience and confidence, and the stall motivated them to explore further business ventures in the future. The students expressed gratitude to the Department Head, Ms. Karunanidhi, and their subject lecturer, Ms. Delsiaa, for their support and guidance in making the stall a success.

Success and Impact:

The food and palm based production stall received an overwhelming response from the golden jubilee and tourism day c attendees, including students, and university staff. The presence and support of faculty and academics further bolstered the event’s impact, as they not only purchased products but also offered valuable ideas related to food and entrepreneurship.

 

Feedback:

As it was the  the Department of Economics organized a stall at the university premises,the staff appreciated the initiative and encouraged the Young Economist Association to continue such endeavors in the continuously. The feedback received from visitors was overwhelmingly positive, praising the association’s efforts in encouraging entrepreneurship among students. Attendees also admired the diversity and quality of the products offered at the palm based production stall.

 

Conclusion:

The food and palm based production stall organized by the Young Economist Association during the Jaffna University golden jubilee and tourism day ceremony was a resounding success. The event not only achieved its objectives of promoting entrepreneurship and raising funds but also garnered significant support and appreciation from the university community. The positive impact and valuable feedback received have motivated the association to plan similar events in the future, empowering students to explore entrepreneurship as a viable and rewarding career option. The funds raised will enable the Young Economist Association to continue its mission of promoting economic awareness and educational programs for the benefit of students and society. The success of the stall sets a strong foundation for further entrepreneurial endeavors by the Young Economist Association and its members.
