The field visit was organized by the Department of Economics with the aim of exposing second and third-year BA honors undergraduates specialized in Economics. The places to visit were the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, the Colombo Stock Market, Department of Census of Statistics, the Department of National Planning, Katunayake Export Processing Zone and the University of Colombo. This exposure field visit was successfully completed as scheduled on the 28th and 29th of July 2023 with 55 students and four academic staff joined in the field visit.
The purpose of the exposure visit was to enhance the student’s practical skills in the field study, team-based learning experience with the inter-disciplinary students, and develop a result-based field study report. Further, the students will technically improve their competencies and capabilities in the relevant fields, which was initiated by the course coordinator, Ms.N.Neruja & Dr. K.Karunanithy, the Head of the department, Mr.S.S.Uthayakumar, Mrs.V.Ravishankar, and Ms.M.Gunasayini also joined the field visit which had the participation of 55 students. The field visit was organized with the motive of providing the students with an opportunity to witness and learn the theories, concepts and the practical aspects learned under relevant course modules.
The practices and experiences from the subject experts were provided during the field visit regarding three-course modules namely ECEH 22043 Project Planning and Evaluation & ECCH 31033 Research Methodology and ECCH 32053 Time Series Econometrics. Students have learned how the tools and techniques of organizations and evaluation activities are applied in projects, development tasks, and organizations.
