Born and raised in Sri Lanka, he has cultivated a professional ethos reflective of his training as a Development Economist in England and Wales, where he successfully completed three postgraduate degrees between 1987 and 1999.<\/div>\n<div><br><\/div>\n<div>Over the past twenty-five years (1999-2024), Muttukrishna Sarvananthan has conducted incisive, insightful, and forward-thinking policy research, as evidenced by his ORCID profile (Research Impact Metrics h-index 12, i10-index 18 as of March 2024). His contributions include impactful peer-reviewed research published in international and regional journals, along with advocacy through various media channels in Sri Lanka and beyond.<\/div>\n<div><br><\/div>\n<div>Hailing from Point Pedro, Muttukrishna Sarvananthan is recognized as a leading authority on the economies of the Eastern and Northern Provinces of Sri Lanka. He is the Founder and Principal Researcher of the Point Pedro Institute of Development (PPID), established in 2004.<\/div>\n<div><br><\/div>\n<div>Throughout his career, he has served as a Consultant to various organizations, including the Ministry of Finance and Planning in Sri Lanka, private research institutions, and international consultancy firms such as the Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations (ICRIER), Oxford Analytica, and the Rand Corporation. His research spans a wide range of topics, from civil conflict and post-disaster needs assessments to gender and development, international trade, and terrorism.<br><br><\/div>\n<div>Muttukrishna Sarvananthan has also engaged in collaborative research projects with institutions worldwide, including the University of Edinburgh, University of Mannheim, University of Heidelberg, Rand Corporation, and ICRIER. He has been actively involved as the Sri Lanka Country Collaborator for the Varieties of Democracy (V-Dem) Programme of the University of Gothenburg in Sweden.<br><br><\/div>\n<div>Diplomats and government officials from several countries regularly seek his insights on economic, political, and social matters in the Eastern and Northern Provinces of Sri Lanka.
